Delta Two, a Qatar-based investment group, yesterday confirmed it had acquired a 17.4% stake in Sainsbury’s.
The purchase makes Delta Two the supermarket’s largest shareholder.
Analysts speculated that the group would join forces with billionaire property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz to call for Sainsbury’s board of directors to separate the grocery business from its estimated £5-10bn property portfolio.
