Dhamecha Group has opened its ninth cash & carry this week as it continues to push beyond its London heartland.
The new Birmingham depot is the Today’s Group member’s second site in the Midlands after it opened its Leicester branch in 2015.
“Following the success of the Leicester branch, we are delighted to be expanding our Midlands base into Birmingham and to be employing 60 staff in the area. Our team joined us over two months ago and they have spent the last few weeks being trained in the Leicester branch, ready for the opening of Birmingham,” said chief executive Pradip Dhamecha.
“The general manager of our Leicester branch - Richard Elphick - will become the new general manager in Birmingham, and his position will be filled by Siddarth Jani, who has been with the Dhamecha Group for almost 10 years.”
He added: “Over the last 40 years, we have built a reputation with our customers for good service, speed, competitive long-term pricing and excellent stock availability - and we look forward to developing close relationships with the retailers and caterers in the Birmingham area.”
In its most recent available accounts Dhamecha’s pre-tax profits were up almost 6% to £13.2m for the year ending 31 March 2016, with sales up 2.1% to £668m.
