The Co-op, Bestway Wholesale and Diageo are among the major grocery companies to have signed up to the Dignity at Work charter launched by the ACS and FWD last month.
So far the charter has gained 23 signatories including buying groups Confex and Fairway Foodservice.
The charter states “there is no place for any form of harassment, discrimination, aggression or misconduct in our industry and such behaviour runs contrary to the ideals of the industry”.
Those who sign up agree to provide a respectful, harassment-free environment for employees and should encourage development and training.
“We’ve been absolutely delighted with the response to the code from retailers, wholesalers and suppliers, and the number of signatories to the code is growing every day,” said ACS chief executive James Lowman.
“The feedback we’re getting is that the charter is common sense, but it’s necessary to have a statement of how we feel people working in the industry should behave, and businesses are very keen to promote these standards.”
