Direct Wines has appointed Bibendum’s Iain Muggoch to head up the Bordeaux Estates, English Vineyards and South Australia winery.
Muggoch’s new role as commercial director, which has been newly created, will see him oversee the production, development, sales and marketing for vineyards owned by the Laithwaite family.
Muggoch previously worked at Direct Wines between 1988 and 1994, after joining as a management trainee. He spent three years in South Africa and 15 years at wine supplier Bibendum as a buying director, with responsibility for the Southern Hemisphere and North American portfolio.
Simon McMurtrie, Global CEO, said Muggoch’s experience gave him an unparalleled insight into both the established and emerging market opportunities. “This will be invaluable for delivering the continued success of the wines created by us and our friends as well as continuing to strengthen our core wine values,” he said.
Laithwaite’s portfolio includes three Bordeaux vineyards, La Clarière, Dubois-Colombe and Verniotte, RedHeads Studio Winery in Australia, and UK vineyards in Theale, Wyfold, Marlow and Windsor.
