The directors of Asda’s own-label quiche and pie supplier are trying to salvage the business following the fire which destroyed the site, leading to the loss of 350 jobs.
The bosses of Hilliers of Plymouth have told employees they are looking for potential alternative premises, raising hopes that the 195-year-old pastry products company may have a future.
The current site and machinery were gutted during the blaze on July 15, and PricewaterhouseCoopers is now liquidating the company and has made all employees redundant. John O’Connell, an employee at Hilliers for 25 years, said: “The last I heard was from the general manager, who said they were looking for premises.”
Holland’s Pies has plugged a summer quiche shortage at Asda as a result of the blaze by producing a branded range in seven days. The multiple said it hoped to finalise a deal to get Smartprice quiches, rolls and pies back on shelf this week.
