Scotch whisky specialist Douglas Laing & Co has unveiled a limited edition ‘Feis Ile 2018’ version of its heavily peated Big Peat whisky.
Only 3,000 bottles of the 48% abv drink have been made, which have rolled into specialist retailers (rsp: £49.99/70cl). The whisky, an Islay blended malt, is billed as tasting of “smoked barley with damp leather, chimney soot and a hint of lemon rind” on the palate, and a “long and moreish” finished of “sea salt tang plus streaky bacon and charred oak”.
The launch demonstrated “Douglas Laing and Big Peat’s flair for innovation and fun as we encourage whisky drinkers around the world to enjoy a taste of Islay”.
The brand has launched a competition to accompany the whisky’s rollout. Bottles come with a number of illustrated decals designed to encourage shoppers to decorate and personalise their own packs, and then share the creations on social media using the hashtag #mybigpeat. The competition runs until 1 September.
