The search is now on for the country’s most innovative new products containing dried fruit.

Retailers and manufacturers are being urged to enter the sixth Dried Fruit New Products Awards, which are open to products launched (and available for purchase by UK consumers) between September 2001 and September 2003.

There are five categories to enter: health, convenience, luxury, snacking, and alternative lifestyle.

Aside from the five category prizes there will be a prize for the best new use of dried vine fruits, and an overall winner will be selected from all the entries - this accolade was picked up by Sunsweet Dried Fruit Bars in the last awards.

The awards are organised on a biennial basis by the National Dried Fruit Trade Association to encourage the development of innovative products containing all types of sun-dried fruit.

Chairman of the judging panel Wilfried Tops said: “As a trade body, we are keen to push the traditional boundaries and show that dried fruit is not only ideal for traditional applications, such as Christmas and Easter products, but that it is increasingly being used in everything from sauces to savoury meals.”

The awards are sponsored by Whitworths, Sun-Maid, Sundora, Community Foods, California Raisins, Sunsweet, Demos Ciclitira, Flagship and Fanpac.

The winners will be announced at an official awards ceremony, coinciding with the Dried Fruit Ball, at the Savoy on December 3.

For an entry form please call the organiser, Golley Slater PR, on 020 8744 2630 or e-mail driedfruit@golleyslater.co.uk.
