A prune by any other name would sell...?
The California Prune Board says it is considering whether the name prune' should be changed to dried plum'.
As the board gears up for its 2002/3 marketing push, it is consulting on whether a change to rid the fruit of its humorous connotations would be beneficial or would confuse consumers.
A tree pulling programme is being undertaken to tackle the oversupply problem.
Bagged prunes, repositioned by many brands as a "dynamic" snack with many nutritional benefits, are well placed to compete with other fashionable dried fruit snacks. Prunes contain potassium and antioxidants.
