The Co-operative Group revealed an increased summer focus on Pinot Noir, Rosé, Fairtrade and own-label offerings at its spring tasting.
“The new Pinot Noir wines cover a range of price points and regions,” said Paul Bastard, wine development manager.
The Co-op-branded Pinot Noirs include Centolla Pinot Noir 2003 from Chile (rsp: £3.99), Idyllwild Pinot Noir 2004 from the US (rsp: £4.49) and Explorers Vineyard Pinot Noir from New Zealand (rsp:£5.99).
Maria Gallup, category manager for wines at the Co-op, said sales for own-label and Fairtrade wines were strong. “Own-label is very strong in the Co-op, accounting for 40% of sales, and our wine outperforms this at 44%. We’ve done a lot of work to get the labelling right.
Gallup added: “Last year we also sold more than 100,000 cases of Fairtrade wine, accounting for £5m of sales.”
Gallup said the Co-op planned to increase its Fairtrade ranges later this year.
