The Stowells of Chelsea wine range could be one of the hardest hit UK victims of an Australian wine scandal. Two students at Kingston Estate in the Riverland's region of South Australia have alleged that illegal practices were used to make wines. These are now under investigation by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation. The worst affected of the Stowells range is its Colombard Chardonnay. Batch numbers of its three litre and 10 litre boxes and 75cl and 25cl bottles which contain the suspect Kingston Estate wines have been sent out to customers. Some batches of 25cl bottles of its Matarra Shiraz are also affected. Waitrose was about to list a £13.99 Petit Verdot but is keeping stocks off the shelves. Tesco has withdrawn two Kingston wines: a Shiraz as well as a Mourvedre. Kingston's UK sales and marketing director Scott Washington said no other multiples were involved and stressed the allegations involved technical infringements and there was no risk to health and safety. {{NEWS }}
