Forum for the Future has appointed the head of WWF’s One Planet food programme to lead its food division.

Mark Driscoll, who has been at WWF for seven years, will join in March and has pledged to introduce new initiatives and expand the reach and influence of the organisation.

He said that he wanted to work with “more businesses in the UK and globally” and encourage more collaboration between business, government and non-profit organisations.

He will take over a number of campaigns aimed at changing the way food is produced across the world, with the participation of a range of businesses and government bodies.

“We have to work more collaboratively with businesses and have more businesses as partners,” he said. “We know the global food system is unsustainable and it needs to change.”

Among the active projects Driscoll will inherit is Tea 2030, a drive to improve the standards of sustainable practice in the tea growing sector.

Among the suppliers and other organisations signed up to Tea 2030 are Twinings, Finlays, the Ethical Tea Partnership, Tata Global Beverages, Unilever, Yorkshire Tea and Fairtrade International.

Driscoll said that he was also keen to introduce initiatives to encourage greater awareness of obesity and make Forum for the Future more global in its reach.

“I’m really excited that someone of Mark’s calibre and background has decided to join us,” said Forum for the Future CEO Peter Madden.
