Dunbia is powering up its supply capacity with the acquisition of Nottinghamshire processor company G Wood & Sons.
Mansfield-based Wood has an abattoir in close proximity to one of the most productive pig-producing regions in the UK.
The purchase would complete Dunbia’s pork supply chain in the Midlands as it already had a pork processing plant in Crewe and recently made a multimillion-pound investment in sausage processing in Preston, it said. “The deal builds on our strong network of abattoirs across the UK and provides us with access to additional supplies of British quality-assured and higher-welfare pork,” said Jim Dobson, Dunbia Group managing director.
Wood said becoming part of Dunbia was a positive step forward. “We have worked hard to successfully build up the business over the years and feel the time is now right to become part of a larger group,” said directors Chris and John Wood.
Last week, Dunboa announced a deal to supply 100% British Hereford beef for The Co-operative Group’s top-tier Truly Irresistible range.
