Carlsberg UK has cut the alcohol content in Skol to take advantage of changes to the domestic duty regime.
Skol was previously 3% abv but will now be brewed at 2.8%. The move comes after the government reduced the duty on beers of 2.8% abv or lower to encourage responsible drinking.
“We are responding directly to the Government’s duty initiative to encourage the development of beers at lower ABV levels,” said Carlsberg UK chief Isaac Sheps.
“Skol is a well-established brand with a strong consumer following who have already shown that they are looking for a beer with a lower than average ABV. We believe the change to 2.8% will further increase the brand’s appeal to consumers looking for lower-ABV options.”
