Ernest & Julio Gallo is adding generic red and white wines to its Californian Sierra Valley brand. Aimed at entry level wine drinkers who want the familiarity of a brand but are confused by grape varietal terminology, the additions will retail for £3.99.
Ernest & Julio Gallo Sierra Valley 2003 red is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Ruby Cabernet while the white is a mix of Chardonnay, French Colombard and Chenin Blanc.
Ian Belcher, UK marketing controller, said: “These varietals will give consumers who have limited experience the confidence to select a bottle without being overwhelmed by the different grapes.”
