Fermented sauce brand Eaten Alive has gained its first supermarket listing with Sainsbury’s.
Bottles of its Smoked Sriracha and Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce bottles arrived in 71 Sainsbury’s ‘Taste of the Future’ bays last week. Both sauces are additive free, raw and vegan, and are billed as containing contain “good” bacteria (rsp: £3.99/150ml).
Eaten Alive claims it is one of the few sauce brands to use a lacto-fermentation process, which produces “satisfyingly savoury characteristics and a well-rounded heat” as well as “improving the bioavailability of many vitamins and nutrients”.
The rest of the Eaten Alive range, which includes Lemon Hot Sauce and a Smoky Pink sauerkraut, is available from Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic and directly from the brand.
Sainsbury’s head of Future Brands Rachel Eyre said the new additions to the bay provided something new and different for its shoppers. “Following on from the success of our first Taste of the Future bay, our second trial bay continues to showcase new, distinctive products that you wouldn’t necessarily think you’d be able to pick up on your food shop.”
