Healthier cheese brand Eatlean has made its ready meals debut with a Mac & Cheese line.
The chilled NPD from the Joseph Heler-owned cheese brand contains 50% less fat and 20% fewer calories than a standard mac & cheese and is free from artificial additives or preservatives.
It is made for Eatlean by Strathmore Foods and hits selected Scottish Asda stores on 2 February.
“Our Mac & Cheese is an opportunity to combine two key consumer trends: health and convenience,” Eatlean founder George Heler said. “This ready meal proves that the two can go hand in hand.”
The 380g meal (rsp: £2.40) serves one, and can be cooked in a microwave or oven.
It also combines both Eatlean Original and Tasty cheese variants to “maximise flavour and cheesiness”, the brand said.
“As one of the leading macaroni cheese manufacturers in the UK we believe our reputation for consistent quality coupled with health benefits that Eatlean are a fantastic combination that will offer shoppers great taste, high protein, low fat and convenience at a very affordable price,” said Neil MacRae, sales director at Strathmore Food.
The ready meals are available in Asda stores across Scotland and will be sold at an introductory offer price of £2.
“As a first to market, we are delighted to introduce the Eatlean Mac & Cheese ready meal to selected Asda stores across Scotland,” said Ashley Connolly, local buying manager for Scotland at Asda. “Asda is always on the lookout for new, innovative and quality products from local suppliers and we’re confident our shoppers will enjoy the convenience this product offers, making it a go to option for lovers of the iconic Mac & Cheese.”
