Blackburn-based petrol forecourt and convenience store operator EG Group has acquired the largest KFC franchise operator in the UK and Ireland.
The group, trading as Euro Garages in the UK, bought the 146 KFC restaurants and one Pizza Hut from Belfast-based Herbert Group for an undisclosed amount.
The deal also includes a development pipeline and a small number of non-trading sites.
Following the addition of this portfolio, EG Group now operates over 1,500 food-to-go retail concessions across 10 international markets including the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Germany, the US and Australia.
“Securing the Herbert Group portfolio is well aligned to our long-term strategic growth plans and builds on our commitment to grow EG Group’s presence in the food-to-go retail convenience segment,” EG Group founder and co-CEO Zuber Issa said.
“The Herbert Group portfolio is a great strategic addition and complements our expanding operations in the UK and furthermore, now allows us entry into the Irish market.”
Furthermore, EG Group has announced it has entered a binding agreement to acquire Sydney-listed healthy fast food chain Oliver’s Real Food.
If the deal is approved, Oliver’s shareholders will receive A$0.10 per share, valuing the business operating 24 sites across Australia at A$27m.
Completion of the deal, subject to shareholders’ and court approval, is expected in mid-2020.
