The Co-operative Group has extended its Elmwood standard to all its fresh, plain, own-label turkey products.
The retailer has had all its own-label fresh and frozen whole turkeys and crowns under the higher welfare Elmwood scheme since Easter 2009, but has now pledged to switch all other turkey lines, such as fillets, steaks, mince and pieces, by 30 March.
All The Co-op's fresh whole chicken, fillets and pieces, as well as barbecue chicken products, are already produced to Elmwood standards. Flavoured ready-to-eat chicken will follow in May.
