The Dessert Company, a subsidiary of the Sara Lee Corporation, has been forced to shut up shop after losing a supply contract with Tesco resulting in the loss of around 700 jobs.
The Newark company had been supplying Tesco with chilled sweets for a number of years.
General manager David Arrow said the main priority now was to "explore employment opportunities" for its jobless staff.
A Tesco spokesman said the multiple did not feel the Dessert Company was able to meet future production requirements.
