It’s nothing to do with Benny Goodman – but the other King of Swing is launching his own cricket-themed beer.
England bowler James Anderson, given the nickname for his ferocious fast bowling, has teamed up with Marston’s to produce 3.8% ABV pale ale King of Swing, which launches in Morrisons early next month.
The bottle label features Marston’s ‘Official Beer of England Cricket’ label, along with a picture of a celebratory Anderson, who last week broke Ian Botham’s record to become England’s all-time leading test match wicket taker, with 384.
“We have enjoyed working with James as part of his ambassadorial role with us this year and in the run-up to this summer’s Ashes,” said Marston’s marketing manager Gaynor Green. “As a long-time supporter of cricket it is great to be able to marry the on-shelf appeal of our beer with the on-pitch brilliance of an England cricketer.”
“I was amazed to learn that there was so much that went into brewing beer,” said Anderson, who met Marston’s head brewer Emma Gilleland when he visited the brewery in Burton on Trent. “I enjoyed talking to Emma about each of the complex elements that go into taste, aroma and refreshment. I am really pleased with the result and hope that beer and cricket fans agree.”
