Somerfield has appointed Doug Hall to take over from Steve Tremlett as head of its Somerfield Essentials convenience format.
Tremlett remains in the format team, but has moved to manage the reformatting of the 114 stores that Somerfield recently acquired from Safeway.
Hall, who assumed his new role this week, was previously transformation executive, a role now vacant and for which candidates are being sought.
Nick Scull becomes category buying director for impulse, frozen foods and seasonal with Somerfield. This role has been created because of the chain’s Safeway stores acquisition.
Scull joined Somerfield in 1990, working part-time on the checkouts while studying. He then joined the Somerfield retail management in 1992 before moving to the buying team at head office in 1994. He progressed from buyer to buying controller and then head of category planning and for the last five months has been interim category buying director for non-food.
