Ethical soft drink startup Dash Water has secured an extra £250,000 to expand its market presence.
The brand, which uses wonky fruit and vegetables to flavour sparkling water, began a round of funding in September, seeking private individuals. It ended the search last week, having secured the interest of “select people” – most notably lead investor Brad Berman, a former director of US flavoured water brand Fiji Water, and John Ayton, the founder of Links of London and a director of London coffee company Shoreditch Grind.
“We were very keen to get people who can add value to Dash either through their experience in brand building or in food & drink,” said Dash co-founder Alex Wright.
He and his partner Jack Scott intend to invest the latest funds on expanding their brand’s reach in UK grocery, educating consumers about food waste, and covering the costs of two new employees and new office space in London Victoria. NPD was also “on the horizon” added Wright.
He and Scott, both of whom have farming backgrounds, launched the first two variants of Dash Water in May, making use of fruit & veg rejected by supermarkets. Initially exclusive to Selfridges, their drinks are now available in over 400 stores around the UK.
