A plan to promote the responsible consumption of wine across Europe was launched at the Wine & Spirit Trade Association's spring conference.
The EU Wine Plan for Responsible Consumption Communication is a joint initiative between relevant EU organisations. The WSTA is working with Alcohol in Moderation, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and the Institute of Masters of Wine.
The plan is based around promoting a culture of drinking wine in moderation, which will be spread through a new Wine Information Council and an education campaign called Arts de Vivre. The latter aims to familiarise wine drinkers with the risks of misuse and benefits of moderation and will be communicated by ambassadors from all sectors of the industry.
"We hope this initiative will complement and support much of the good work that is already being done in the UK," said WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles.
