Dennis Evans has been appointed managing director for Spar distribution business AF Blakemore & Son.
Evans joins Blakemore from Somerfield, where he was regional director responsible for managing the retail operations of 132 stores in Scotland and northern England.
Prior to Somerfield, Evans was head of retail for CRS, responsible for the marketing and retail operations of 470 stores and 17,000 employees. He also worked for Iceland, where he progressed to the position of regional controller with responsibility for 252 stores.
In his new role, Evans will be
responsible for the development of Spar’s independent business, trading and distribution.
He replaces John Giles, who will retire early next year after 32 years. The company said Giles was an integral part of the management team and had helped grow the group’s annual turnover from £5m to more than £600m during his time there.
Giles said: “I am sure that the appointment of Dennis will enable Blakemore to continue its successful growth in the convenience sector.”
Peter Blakemore, group managing director, added: “John will be a hard act to follow but I am absolutely delighted that we have secured the services of such a proven and experienced retail professional as Dennis Evans. I am confident that with him as part of the team, our growth is set to continue.”
The Seafood Company has appointed Terry Ennis as group MD after its acquisition by Fishery Products International. Ennis has been with the FPI for 10 years and has held a number of senior management positions.
Following the rebranding of its in-store pharmacies, Morrisons has appointed Bruce Pimlott as pharmacy general manager. Pimlott, who has 30 years experience with Boots, said he aimed to grow the business in terms of scale, volume and quality of service.
Peter King has been appointed to the board of the English Beef and Lamb Executive. He is chief livestock adviser at the National Farmers’ Union.
Kerry Foods Direct to Store has appointed Steve Prangle as operations controller. It has also appointed Andy Redstone as logistics controller.
