Sainsbury and Safeway have already given their support to a Mango Week from August 17-27 to coincide with the peak arrivals from Puerto Rico and Israel. Sant Mehta, chairman of the UK's largest supplier Minor Weir & Willis, aims to create an industry association representing producers and distributors later this year. He said there was an enormous opportunity to develop sales. The UK imports some 18,000 tonnes a year, but most people only buy one mango a year.
