One of Britain's most famous washing brands is being axed with at least one manufacturer eager to take on the mantle being left behind by the disappearance of Lux.
Lever Fabergé has confirmed that production of its centenarian soap flakes brand will cease later this year with supplies likely to dry up early in the New Year. The decision was taken after Lever announced plans to move all soap production out of its Port Sunlight facility.
Small sales volumes of Lux meant it was no longer "economically viable" to transfer production of the brand elsewhere, said the company.
However, Derbyshire based Dri-Pak, which currently finishes' and packs the flakes for Lever, said it would plug the gap being left by Lux with its own brands which include Granny's Original and Acdo.
Sales and marketing director Mike Pugh said: "More than 1,500,000 households use soap flakes regularly and the trend away from chemical based cleaning products has meant that, ironically, sales of flakes have seen a revival over recent years. Soap flakes are not disappearing just because Lux is no more."
