Consumers will soon be able to trace their organic chicken back to the farm via the internet, thanks to Sainsbury.
From the beginning of next month, customers will be able to enter a code from the chickens’ label on to the Sainsbury website to find out on which farm the product was reared.
The retailer said it would also provide a valuable tool for customers wanting to find out more about the organic sector.
Farmers taking part have provided an overview of their operations including their organic philosophy.
Sonia Fuller, organic meat buyer, said: “We began offering a traceability website for organic potatoes over two years ago with a fantastic response.
“We are delighted to be providing even further information about the organic poultry sector.”
