Farm retailers are bracing themselves for a surge in pick-your-own as shoppers look for quality bargains.
With the PYO strawberry season starting, UK sales are expected to follow the US trend of strong growth, according to the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association. Farma members plan to hold prices at last year's levels to encourage custom, the organisation said.
Most PYO farms in the south will have opened to customers by the second week of June, while the north will be open in the second half of the month.
