Food and Drink Federation Scotland has appointed Dr Gary Stephenson, director for global external and regulatory affairs at Devro (Scotland), as its new chairman.
Stephenson will take the reins from Archie Gibson of Agrico UK.
He has 30 years’ technical, nutrition and regulatory experience in the food industry, most recently with Devro - a supplier of collagen casings used by the global food industry in the production of meat products.
“I am delighted to welcome Gary as our new chair. He has been an invaluable resource to FDF for many years - providing scientific and technical knowledge which has helped shape and influence policy. During changing political times this expertise is even more important,” said FDF Scotland CEO David Thomson.
Stephenson added: “Keeping track of and influencing the changing Scottish, UK and global food regulations are critical to protecting and growing our business, especially as the UK plans to leave the EU.
“As a member of FDF we can tap into the wide expertise of FDF staff and its members to better understand legislative change and more effectively influence policy to help to deliver better, less costly regulation.
“I look forward to taking on this leadership role as FDF Scotland’s chair and continuing to help ensure policy that impacts on food and drink is proportionate and evidence based.”
