Filippo Berio has switched up the packaging of its one-litre bottle of olive oil.
The one-litre bottle was previously plastic – the rest of its range was already packaged in glass.
The brand said it had received requests from shoppers and it was “clear that they loved” the glass bottles, even for a larger format, even though plastic was “more comfortable and easier to use, and more forgiving if it dropped”.
The switch also chimed with environmental concerns, added Filippo Berio MD Walter Zanre, and would remove over 68 tonnes of plastic from production every year.
The new glass bottle will roll out this month into the big four and Waitrose (rsp: £8/one-litre).
