Northern Irish meat processor Finnebrogue Artisan has signed a £2m contract with Asda to extend its supply deal for top-tier Extra Special sausages.
The deal, announced this week, means Asda’s new Extra Special Light & Lean sausages will be available in more than 350 stores nationwide (rsp: £2.75/400g).
The newcomer forms part of the retailer’s 16-strong premium own-label sausage range, supplied by Finnebrogue since 2014.
“We’re always keen to support Northern Ireland’s agrifood sector and help local food companies grow their businesses through Asda’s national channels,” said Asda’s senior buying manager for meat Paul Geary.
“The Extra Special sausage range supplied by Finnebrogue has been an outstanding success. We’re marking the third anniversary by extending the range to include this premium, healthy option - which reflects the ever-changing needs of customers,” he added.
Own-label premium sausage sales in the mults are bucking the sausage category’s general downward trend, with value sales up 2.1% during the past year [IRI Retail Advantage 52 w/e 20 March].
