Finsbury Food Group is expanding its Nicholas & Harris bakery after doubling the size of the specialty bread business over the past five years.

It has secured a 15-year lease on a 25,000 sq ft building next to its existing bakery in Salisbury.

The new building will allow Finsbury to expand capacity and improve efficiency. The company currently uses several small sites nearby for distribution that it will be able to consolidate into one – saving an estimated 125 vehicle movements a week.

Nicholas & Harris – which makes the Vogel brand and specialises in organic and speciality bread products – has enjoyed annual growth of 15-20% in recent years. Finsbury said it was confident the momentum would be sustained.

“We could easily double the size of the bread business over the next few years,” said Finsbury CEO John Duffy.

Meanwhile, Finsbury has also invested in a new production line at its Lightbody cake factory in Hamilton, which includes robotics at the packing end.
