Allinson Just for Bread from Westmill Foods contains all of the ingredients to make a large loaf

When I was first handed the Allinson Just For Bread mixes I thought "what's the point?" Anyone who makes their own bread or has made the serious capital investment of buying a breadmaker is probably the type who wants to create and experiment and will happily buy all the ingredients to make their own flavoured styles.
However, I am in the breadmaker brigade and this combines the pleasure of having fresh bread on tap with the convenience factor. So having a failsafe method of producing different flavours without having to garner a diverse range of ingredients has a definite appeal.
The big question was "will my children eat the bread?" There is no point in making it if the family won't eat it. They've tried my own attempt at sun dried tomato bread and rejected it on the spot.
My best hope was Allinson's date, raisin and apricot variety because my own fruit loaf has already gone down well.
In the end they were a big hit. With both the tomato and basil and the cheese, chive and onion (which came out looking very radical) they tried it, liked it and asked for more. The tomato and basil was certainly better than anything I have come up with so far.
We liked the fruit loaf but we reckon the one I make is better, though I can't do it as cheaply. The 89p rsp per packet makes it an attractive option.
The big failure was the three seeds loaf (sunflower, sesame and pumpkin). It just wasn't very interesting and it was the only one which did not turn out right. It refused to come out of the loaf tin, and when it did the top split away from the base so the finished item looked awful.
This may have been due to too much moisture so this could be down to (my) human error. I'll try it again and see what happens.
Overall I like the Just for Bread concept. It makes life easier and is reasonably cost efficient. I will purchase two of the four styles and look forward to new ones coming out.
