The first Morrisons Daily store will open on Guernsey tomorrow as part of its franchise deal with Sandpiper CI.
The store at St Peter’s is among six to open in the coming weeks.
Sandpiper announced earlier this year it had reached a new franchise and wholesale supply agreement with the supermarket.
It will see most of Sandpiper’s Channel Islands mini-supermarkets rebranded into Morrisons Daily stores, whilst the move will create around 20 jobs.
The stores will be supplied with Morrisons’ own-brand merchandise, alongside branded products from more than 30 local suppliers.
“I think Guernsey consumers will be pleasantly surprised with the Morrisons Daily brand,” said Sandpiper CEO Tony O’Neill. “Morrisons’ substantial buying power means we’ve been able to lower our current Foodhall prices by at least 5% on an average shopping basket and significantly more on many of Morrisons’ own-label products.
“The opening of the first store in St Peter’s marks the start of a major investment programme in our Guernsey retail estate, which will include complete new fit-outs, major refurbishment and full Morrisons branding from store fascias to our colleagues’ uniforms.”
As part of this agreement Morrisons will supply Sandpiper with its recently revived, Safeway-branded products along with further national branded products.
Sandpiper opened its first Morrisons Daily on Jersey in May and was aiming to have opened 16 on that island by the end of this month.
