The season’s first Picota cherries have arrived in UK supermarkets.
The cherries have Protected Designation of Origin status and must be grown and prepared in the Jerte valley in Spain, west of Madrid.
They are never artificially cultivated or preserved and are hand-harvested by local farmers using traditional chestnut wood baskets.
The cherries are now available in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Iceland, Aldi and Lidl.
