Nisi Limonetti biscuits
Launched: October 2010
Baker and former Mars marketing executive Denise Stevenson won a Great Taste Gold Award last month for her traditional almond amaretti, but it was the new citrus-flavoured Limonetti (rsp: £3.99 for 150g) that won the most plaudits from punters at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair, which hosted the awards. Waitrose has identified Italian biscuits as one of the fastest-growing trends in the premium market one that Nisi's hopes to exploit.
Fox’s Mini Party Rings (Northern Foods)
Launched: October 2010
Due to launch this month, these 25g bagged treats (rsp: £1.29 for a pack of six bags) are the latest in a series of brand extensions that have included the multi-coloured biscuit resized and repackaged in individual pots for the lunchbox market. Each bag has a different colour and theme and features on-pack games for younger children. The bags are another foray by Fox's into portion control; Rocky and Chunkie Cookies have also appeared in new no-binge formats.
Sainsbury’s White Chocolate Cake
Launched: September 2010
When Sainsbury's revamped hundreds of products in its Taste the Difference own-label range last month, one of the stars of the new line-up was its White Chocolate and Raspberry Cake (rsp: £9.99), an all-butter sponge layered with raspberry conserve and wrapped in white chocolate. "This offers a patisserie-style product at a Sainsbury's price," says cake buyer Jennifer Salamoney, adding she'd had good feedback from shoppers and sales had been "extremely encouraging".
Cadbury's Biscuits (Burton’s Foods)
Launched: March 2010
Is it a biscuit? Is it a sweet? The Cadbury/Burton's Foods tie-up left consumers guessing and gagging for more. The triple line-up (rsp: £1.59 for 130g packs) was the fastest-selling NPD launch ever within the biscuit category, claims Burton's, and has clocked up sales of £10.6m sales in the first four months. And Burton's plans more for the brand. "We have ambitious plans for our Cadbury portfolio and will continue to drive NPD forward," says category controller Jon Sandy.
