Home Bargains has taken its first step into food retail on the web less than a month after it started to sell non-food online.
The TJ Morris-owned discounter said that by offering chocolate or biscuits at reduced prices on the site, such as an 800g box of Milk Tray at £5.99 (£8.86 below rsp), it was hoping to tempt people to add treats to their baskets when shopping for higher-value items.
Currently, the www.homebargains.co.uk food range comprises a Cadbury biscuit tin and boxes of Cadbury Roses and Milk Tray, but more grocery products would follow, the company said.
