Perkins Frozen Foods claims to have "documentary proof" it is not implicated in the public health scandal surrounding poultry unfit for consumption entering the food chain.
The Food Standards Agency claims Perkins may have unknowingly used meat derived from Denby Poultry Products, a petfood processing plant in Derbyshire being investigated by police over condemned meat allegations.
The FSA has advised retailers to recall Perkins' Premier four breaded chicken steaks and Farmfoods breaded chicken nuggets coded L0330-L0337 BB Nov 2001.
A Perkins spokesman said technical director Steve Findley found documents to prove Perkins did not source poultry from the supply routes under suspicion.
