WH Smith is rolling out a new Foogo sandwiches range to travel stores after winding up a supply deal with Marks & Spencer.
WH Smith marketing development manager Catherine Lister said the range from Italian company Foogo was now available in 32 WH Smith travel stores.
M&S and WH Smith made a mutual decision to end the partnership, established in June 2001.
Lister said M&S did not find it commercially viable to distribute to all locations where WH Smith wanted to carry sandwiches. M&S wanted to concentrate on Simply Food at railway stations, rather than stocking a potential competitor.
M&S said in a statement: “We believe the M&S Simply Food format now provides the business with a more appropriate vehicle.”
M&S’s sandwiches and sushi offer at the WH Smith was phased out in favour of Foogo brands over a few weeks, in the run up to April this year. The Foogo range includes sandwiches, wraps, salads, cakes and smoothies.
