Jim Paice MP, who lost his place as food and agriculture minister in this week’s Cabinet reshuffle, is to be given a knighthood.

Having come from a farming background, Paice gained the support of many in the farming community while he was in the ministerial post.

“I am delighted to be offered this honour, and especially as it also recognises the support that my wife has given me over so many years,” he said.

Earlier this week, Paice revealed he was disappointed at losing his ministerial position after two-and-a-half years. “After 23 years continuous service on the Conservative front bench both in government and in opposition it will be a great change to move to backbenches.”

See Saturday’s edition of The Grocer for more on what the reshuffle means for health, food and farming.
