Chicken giant 2 Sisters Food Group has hired poultry stalwart Eddie Power to head up the group's UK business.
Power, who takes up the newly created role of UK managing director on Monday, will be based at 2 Sisters' head office in West Bromwich, West Midlands.
He takes over day-to-day control from CEO Ranjit Singh, allowing Singh to focus on the implementation of group corporate strategy for 2010 to 2015.
Power, who has more than 30 years' experience in the food industry, was well-known and highly regarded and would enhance the company's customer relationships, said a 2 Sisters spokesman.
"He fully understands the costs, supply and customer challenges that we face," he said.
Singh added: "Eddie's appointment fits with 2 Sisters' business strategy and provides additional strength and capability to our great team of people."
Power had an exceptionally strong record of delivering profits and growth, he added. Prior to joining 2 Sisters, Power was group managing director at Grampian Country Food Group, now part of Vion Food Group.
He was also chief executive of Grampian Country Food Group's pork division and managing director of Glanbia's meat division.
After leading Grampian through the acquisition by Vion, Power continued to act in an advisory capacity for Vion until August this year. He is currently chairman of turkey producer Cranberry Foods and a non-executive director of QV Foods.
2 Sisters Food Group which supplies chicken products to the multiples employs almost 7,000 people and has a turnover of more than £1bn.
It is part of Boparan Holdings and has ambitious plans for expansion in the wake of its recent acquisitions.
In April, it announced plans to buy Dutch poultry processor Storteboom Group. In the same month, it bought the business and assets of fish supplier Five Star Fish, having acquired fish and chip shop chain Harry Ramsden's in January.
