Four staff members at a Central England Co-op store in Leicester have tested positive for coronavirus.
The colleagues from its Anstey Food Store in Charnwood are now self-isolating at home.
The society said that any further colleagues who were in close contact with those who have tested positive were also self-isolating as a precaution and have been encouraged to get tested as well.
“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our colleagues and customers,” said a spokesman for Central England Co-op.
“We carefully follow government advice in relation to Covid-19, in addition to having our own extensive measures in place including hand sanitiser stations, PPE for colleagues, plastic screens at checkouts, social distancing measures and regular and extensive deep cleaning.
“We can confirm that four colleagues from our Anstey Food Store have tested positive for coronavirus and are now self-isolating at home.”
The store remains open as normal and an extensive deep-clean has been carried out.
It comes as a new three-tier strategy of local lockdown measures for England was announced by Boris Johnson in efforts to curb rising coronavirus rates.
In Charnwood, Leicester, it currently stands under an alert level of medium.
