Processed apple specialist Fourayes has upgraded its storage and despatch facility in a move to improve efficiency and product consistency.
The UK's largest Bramley producer has replaced the single loading bay and ambient store with three new bays and chilled storage facilities at its farm near Sittingbourne. As well as allowing a higher turnover of deliveries, the chilled storage allowed fruit to be kept at a constant 5C year round, the company said. "The redesigned factory allows us to meet customer needs more efficiently," said MD Phil Acock.
The building now features a steel frame support around the outside, giving more clearance for internal walls and reducing the need for columns and allowing for more space and food safety features inside, Acock added.
Further expansion is scheduled for 2009 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the Bramley.
