Fox’s Biscuits worker Rose Mobley is celebrating an incredible 55 years at the company’s Uttoxeter factory.

Mobley, 70, started working at the factory the day after her 15th birthday in August 1959, back when Harold Macmillan was prime minister.

During her time at Fox’s she has turned her hand to most jobs - from icing biscuits to mixing dough, and even a spell driving trucks on the site.

Mobley, who currently helps make cream biscuits such as bourbons, was presented with a pewter tankard and a specially decorated cake at a presentation honouring her long service.

She has no plans to retire any time soon. “Who knows, I might be here for my 60th anniversary,” said Mobley. “I’ve got my Health and my strength and I don’t like being idle - I like my job. I don’t think of the future, I just see what each day brings.

“It’s been a pleasure to come to work, a joy. There have been so many good times. We didn’t have the wireless back then. We used to put our records on in the factory and have a sing-song while we made biscuits. I remember these as the best times, we worked but we had a laugh, all singing along together.”

Paying tribute to her long service, Fox’s general manager Kevin Hand said: “By anyone’s reckoning this is an incredible and unprecedented achievement.

“We’re very lucky to have many loyal people working at Fox’s but Rose is an inspiration to us all. We’re delighted to help her celebrate this special milestone in her working life. Long may she continue working at Fox’s.”
