The move is part of the supplier’s bid to to transition to 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025

FrieslandCampina has switched its Yazoo Kids range from plastic to more sustainable cardboard cartons – part of ongoing efforts to transition to 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025.

The change also sees the flavoured milk range switch to “lunchbox-friendly” square packaging, with the new packs rolling out across Yazoo Kids lines in the grocery, wholesale and convenience channels over the past few weeks. They also carry Minions branding as part of a marketing tie-up between the brand and Minions studio Illumination/Universal.

The packaging update will save about 200 tonnes of plastic material per year.

FrieslandCampina said sustainability was “not only about environmental impact, but also about the health and wellbeing of consumers”, and with that in mind, Yazoo’s commitment to sugar reduction in recent years had resulted in the removal of 480 tonnes of sugar per year since 2008 – with 100% of the brand’s range now HFSS-compliant.

“Planet-first products are of ever-increasing importance to consumers and retailers alike,” said FrieslandCampina brand manager Maren Fuhrich.

“A recent study [by the supplier] found that 65% of the population believe that food and nutrition brands need to do more to protect the planet, a number that is only set to grow in the coming years.”
