John Rutherford has been appointed chief executive designate for the Sea Fish Industry Authority.
Rutherford joins next week and will take over from current chief executive Alasdair Fairbairn when he retires in January.
He was most recently md of the agriculture division of Countrywide Farmers, where he was responsible for £65m agricultural sales and over 300 staff.
He will ensure delivery of services to the UK seafood industry including training, marketing and trade promotion, technical development, aquaculture development, economic and statistical advice.
Rutherford said: "At a time when the industry faces a period of tremendous change, Seafish has an important role to play in providing support and advice to all sectors of the fishing industry."
