Britvic has warned that a widespread recall of its Robinsons Fruit Shoot drinks could cost the company millions of pounds.
The soft drinks giant is recalling all Fruit Shoot and Fruit Shoot Hydro packs, which feature a newly designed cap, due to a packaging safety issue.
“The potential financial impact of the recall is being analysed, but at this very early stage it is anticipated that there will be a limited cost estimated at between £1m and £5m to profits before tax in the current financial year,” the company said.
The warning came after Britvic said it had identified an issue with a small number of damaged caps and the products were being withdrawn as a “precautionary measure”.
“As the damaged caps may become fully or partially detached… we believe a full consumer recall of Fruit Shoot and Hydro is the appropriate course of action,” said a company statement.
Robinsons Fruit Shoot drinks are available in standard or low-sugar variations in Orange, Blackcurrant & apple, Summer Fruits, Apple and Tropical flavours.
Fruit Shoot Hydro, a spring water drink pitched at active kids, is available in Orange & Pineapple, Blackcurrant and Apple & Raspberry flavours. All are available in single units and as multipacks.
“Fruit Shoot My-5 is not being recalled. No other Robinsons products are affected,” said the company’s recall notice. “Britvic Soft Drinks apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
retailers are being asked to remove stock from shelves, while consumers with any affected product have been advised to return it to retailers for a refund or call the company’s consumer care line on 0800 0321767.
