Former 22g bottles have been replaced with ‘optimised’ 20g ones

Frylight has reduced its bottle weight by 9% to lower its carbon footprint across production and logistics.

Former bottles of the one-calorie cooking spray, which weighed 22g, have been replaced with “optimised” 20g bottles.

Frylight claims the move will remove 20 tonnes of plastic from the supply chain – equivalent to 900k fewer bottles being produced per annum.

It follows previous initiatives by Frylight to reduce its carbon footprint across transportation, logistics and production, including the reduction of plastic in its cap in 2017, removing 120 tonnes of plastic per annum.

It has since removed shrink-wrap packaging, reducing plastic by a further 26 tonnes per annum, and improved its pallet configuration to reduce CO2 emissions in 2022.

Sustainability remains a priority for consumers and they expect their favourite brands to step up and offer more environmentally-friendly options,” said Frylight innovation lead Emily Wybourn.

The team would “continue to work hard on our innovation pipeline, keeping our environmental impact top of mind, whilst still delivering convenient and versatile products to our consumers”, Wybourn said.

The move contributes to Frylight owner Saputo Dairy UK’s pledge to reduce its material usage by 15%.

It announced plans to remove non-recyclable cover papers from its Clover, Utterly Butterly and Country Life Spreadable lines in June, in a move it said would prevent 44 tonnes of packaging from going to landfill annually.
