Functional drinks brand NeuroDrinks - listed in retailers including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s - is pulling out of the UK.
The US-based business said it was temporarily withdrawing its five products - NeuroBliss, NeuroSonic, NeuroSport, NeuroSun and NeuroTrim - from the UK following its launch in 2010, and plans to relaunch at a later date with the full range of seven drinks sold in America.
Current UK and EU regulations prohibit the use of certain ingredients in the other two drinks in the range, and the company is seeking regulatory approval to sell the whole line-up here.
“With two of the bestsellers in the US - NeuroPassion and NeuroSleep - not on sale in the UK, the company has decided to withdraw and come back all guns blazing when it gains approval,” said NeuroDrinks UK managing director Steve Norris.
The Fulham-based British arm of the business had been operating at a loss, but Norris said the potential for the whole range was greater than marketing only five SKUs.
“We have seen double-digit growth in the UK and sold more than six million bottles. Retailers have been incredibly supportive,” he added.
NeuroDrinks lines, which are manufactured in this country for the British market, are expected to disappear from UK supermarkets by the end of Q1 next year, following range reviews.
Owned by multimillionaire founder Diana Jenkins, the brand originally launched in the US in 2009. Growth in its home market is triple-digit, Norris added.
