Volunteer-led organisation Furloughed Foodies is offering corporate sponsorships to support its work delivering meals to NHS staff on the frontline.
The organisation, made up of furloughed volunteers who cook and deliver meals to medical workers, launched at the end of March. So far, it has raised over £25k and delivered more than 12,000 meals to 15 hospitals and two food banks.
The food delivered to pre-arranged contacts costs up to a maximum of £1.50, including packaging and delivery.
Furloughed Foodies now aims to expand its operation to more food banks and homeless shelters. It has increased its funding target to £75k, enabling its 400 volunteers to cook and deliver at least 50,000 meals over the next three months.
“The feedback we’ve received so far has been incredible, yet as demand shifts, we must too,” said Furloughed Foodies co-founder Floris ten Nijenhuis.
“I can only imagine how beneficial our services could be to other sectors and vulnerable groups that have been drastically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
To support this initiative, Furloughed Foodies is offering sponsorship packages to businesses ranging from £1,500 for 1,000 meals up to £15k for 10,000 meals.
Food donations: what’s the right way to back NHS workers in the war on coronavirus?
The organisation has so far received “generous donations” from the Cobham branch of NFU Mutual, The Skinners’ Company and the Worshipful Company of Cooks, among others.
Co-founder Chloe Hall added: “While individual donations are fantastic, for us to continue to support London’s most in need, larger donations are going to be vital.
“By calling on business we hope that they will understand the reasons behind our cause, see the passion and drive we have to do all we can, and want to support and keep Furloughed Foodies operating.”
